British Support Simplification Programe Is A Mess

John Williams - Thursday 18.09.08, 11:25am

Government plans to simplify it’s business support system in the UK by reducing the number of separate schemes that are currently in operation from 3000 to ‘less than 100′, is on course for introduction in October.

It has been revealed by Janice Munday of the British Support Simplification Programme (BSSP) however, that the new programme will run for two years alongside the old system, prompting Munday to suggest that “There will be a bit of a muddle”!

Surely the whole idea was to avoid just that. The current system has proved that the governments small business support is already a mess, so what will be solved?

Once again small business owners will be left fumbling in the dark, with essentially another 100 products being offered alongside the existing 3000 schemes, and the BSSP suggesting that they would be willing to ‘add other products at a later date.’

I am amazed that given the opportunity to tidy things up and basically start from scratch the government has once again let down the small business owners who are the backbone of the UK economy.
