First Group invest in green future

John Williams - Thursday 07.02.08, 11:54am

FirstGroup, public transport operators, have announced an investment of over £100m  in 700 new greener buses – the biggest ever vehicle order in the industry.

FirstGroup has committed itself to reducing carbon emissions by 20% from trains and 25% from buses by 2020. First Bus anticipated an expected rise in public transport passenger numbers and with this investment has made a commitment to offer the best transport service possible.

The new fleet will be fitted with the latest E.U. approved Euro IV fuel efficient engines to reduce the level of carbon dioxide emissions.

This in turn reduces the FirstGroup carbon footprint. Both Leeds and Aberdeen will initially benefit from this huge transport investment.
