FSB calls for integrity over Camden Market re-development

John Williams - Tuesday 12.02.08, 06:43am

The Federation of Small Businesses has called for “integrity and loyalty” in the re-development of Camden Lock Market, following the catastrophic fire in London over the weekend.

The Federation says that the market has long been an important resource, offering an eclectic mix of stalls and shops. It has played an important role in getting people to shop locally and this has a knock on effect on surrounding businesses.

Chairman Laurie Payne has urged a speedy recovery to the market area, where more than 300 small business owners are affected, but warns that it is imperative that the affected businesses are treated “both fairly and with integrity.”

“The redevelopment should take place in consultation with the stallholders and should not be seen as a chance to shoehorn in anything that will go against their needs, and those of both the Camden community and the hundreds of thousands of tourists who come to visit this unique area each week.”
